Numero 6 Calle Castillo is a series of original rooms radiating off an inner courtyard and a garden with bougainvillea, vine, orange tree and a small pool to temper the unforgiving summer sun. Sleeping 6 in three bedrooms it is a charismatic, rambling old house with stone floors and beamed ceilings, an ancient entrance hall, a cave and a well. There is now a new additional double room at the top with en-suite shower that opens directly onto the roof terrace; which means that the house can now accommodate 8 persons. There is also a well fitted kitchen with a dishwasher, bath and shower rooms, with a washing machine, a dining room and living room, an extensive library of books and CD’s and art on the walls. All of it decorated in a simple style befitting its origins. Enjoy the shade of the garden during the days and the evening sunset on the roof terrace, with distant views out to Africa. Due to there being steep outside stairs and a roof terrace, plus no way to close off the pool, the house is not really recommended for toddlers and very young children. Summers are long and sunny, but the thick white walls protect you from the intense heat and we have ceiling fans. Before May and after August, there may be some rain. The house is not centrally heated as it dates from the 12th Century and is grade 1 listed and although we have plug in radiators, and 2 woodburning stoves it is essentially a very old house that we have tried to preserve and restore, but like any old house can suffer from the odd leak or draught. We would advise that if you are seeking warmer climates during these times, to be aware of this. However, it can be sunny and bright and around 20C even in Nov Dec, Mar and April. But the real joy of the place is that it puts you in the very heart of this beautiful town and genuinely welcoming community, in the most fascinating part of southern Spain. This area has not been spoilt by tourism, is authentic and atmospheric with vast areas of virgin national park and beautiful wild beaches.
